Track and Field Individuals Earn Regional Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced the All-Region honorees for the 2017-18 NCAA Division II indoor Track and Field season, with eight Trojans earning the honor.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season.

On the men's side, a total of 559 earned All-Region honors from 124 different institutions. American International paced the men's side with 26 All-Region honors. Tiffin and Grand Valley State had 25 apiece, while Southern Connecticut and Lee (Tenn.) posted 24 each. A total of 521 women from 120 different institutions picked up All-Region honors. Embry Riddle (Fla.) and Grand Valley State led all women's programs with a total of 30 All-Region honors each. Lee (Tenn.) posted 27.

For the Trojan women, junior Abigail Bozarth, senior Emily Pitts, freshman Olivia Rish and junior Madison Seay earned accolades for their performances in the distance medley relay, while junior JoLyn Copeland garnered the recognition for her work in the weight throw. Both freshman Olivia Evans and junior Allyson Malone captured the honor for performances in the 5,000 meter run.

Anderson senior standout Mason Hazel claimed the honor for his performance in the 5,000 meters, which also earned him a berth in this weekend's NCAA National Championships.
