Hazel to Run at Prestigious Penn Relays

ANDERSON, S.C. - As part of yet another standout campaign, sophomore Mason Hazel will be competing at the 2016 Penn Relays, which is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, hosted annually since April 21, 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. It regularly attracts more than 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges, and track clubs throughout North America and abroad.

Hazel will be among nearly 100 top-caliber runners competing in the College Men's 5000 meter run, which is slated for Thursday at 9:30 p.m.

The All-South Atlantic Conference performer will be the lone representative from the SAC in the event and will join South Carolina's Andrew Trusty as the only two runners from the Palmetto State in the 5000 meter run.

Hazel won the 5000 meter run at Grand Valley State's Big Meet in mid-February, while posting a school-record time of 14:37.58 at the indoor meet. He followed up by crossing the line in fourth place at the outdoor Florida Relays in a time of 14:26.89 and claimed third at the SAC Championships less than two weeks ago with a time of 14:59.23.
