Trojan Track and Field Wraps up Day One of Clemson’s Bob Pollock Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. - Paced by juniors Ben Boerma and Sherin Malone, the Anderson men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up opening day action of Clemson's Bob Pollock Classic with 11 top-10 finishes, Friday afternoon at the Tigers' Indoor Complex.

Malone qualified for the finals of the women's 60 meter hurdles by finishing seventh in the prelims in a time of 9.03, while senior Ali Palacios was 12th in a time of 9.38. Freshman Madison Seay finished 20th after crossing the line in 10.30. Palacios (8.13) also claimed 20th in the prelims of the 60 meter dash. Malone went on to finish eighth in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.34.

Senior D'Yandra Morris finished ninth in the finals of the women's weight throw with a toss of 14.22 meters, while sophomore Haylee Love finished eighth in the mile run in a time of 5:24.69, with fellow sophomore Alex Dixon crossing the line in 12th in a time of 5:32.59. Freshman Maddie Buddenberg brought home 20th in a time of 5:52.73.

Juniors Grace Gerlock (20:00.44) and Mia Swierzs (20:07.30) finished 10th and 11th in the 5000 meters with sophomore Allison Halperin claiming 12th in a time of 20:24.19.

Freshman Tori Cooper crossed the line in 18th in the 400 meter run in a time of 1:02.29, while Seay was 22nd in a time of 1:03.31.

On the men's side, Boerma finished second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:28.34, with sophomore Mason Hazel claiming third in the men's one mile run after crossing the line in 4:15.18, which was just more than a second behind the pace set by Clemson's Cameron Thornton. Junior Jesse Patrick claimed 14th in a time of 4:38.11. With his performance, Hazel qualified provisionally for the NCAA Nationals.

The freshman tandem of Luke Rochester (4.20 meters) and Jeff Bannon (4.05 meters) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault, while junior Philip DeGraaf claimed sixth with a height of 3.60 meters.

Sophomores Rashod Monts (51.26) and Caleb Stephenson (52.29) were 16th and 20th, respectively in the men's 40 meter run, with freshman Jeff Bannon bringing home 29th in a time of 57.76. Junior Eric Hoover claimed 16th in the prelims of the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.55, while placing 14th in the long jump with a distance of 5.78 meters.

Sophomore Christopher Burton (7.03) finished 13th in the men's 60 meter dash prelims, while Stephenson (7.15) finished in a tie for 21st. Sophomore T.J. Robinson was 26th in a time of 7.22. Sophomore Anthony Aleruchi claimed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.06 meters.

Saturday's events at the Classic are slated to get underway at 11 a.m., beginning with the women's shot put.
