INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Following its' undefeated run through the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament last weekend, the Anderson University softball team remains second in the NCAA's third and final Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.
The top three in the poll remained the same as last week, as Anderson (42-10), which is ranked 16th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll (NFCA) Division II poll, claimed a share of its first-ever SAC regular-season title 11 days ago and its first league tournament title over the weekend. The Trojans have already reached new heights by setting a school record for victories and held on to the second spot in the rankings, just behind nationally fourth-ranked North Georgia (43-9). Joining the Trojans in the regional rankings from the South Atlantic Conference are 24th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne (39-13), which dropped from fourth to fifth in the rankings and Wingate (36-18), which traded places with the Bears by claiming the fourth spot. Lincoln Memorial was eighth again this week, while Carson-Newman (34-18) remained 10th.
UNG held on to the top spot for the third consecutive week,
while fellow Peach Belt Conference-member Armstrong Atlantic State
(30-12), ranked 19th nationally in the latest NFCA Coaches' Poll,
occupies the third slot. USC Aiken (32-14) and Georgia College
(34-15), both from the Peach Belt, are sixth and seventh,
respectively in the regional rankings, with Columbus State (31-20)
remaining ninth.
The NCAA's NCAA D-II Tournament selections are slated to be
unveiled on Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m.
In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference (Anderson), Peach Belt (North Georgia), and Conference Carolinas (Mount Olive) each receive their respective league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more at-large selections to be determined Monday morning.
