Abby Child Earns Conference Player of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson senior Abby Child has been named the South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week following her outstanding effort on the diamond last week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.

Child hit .615 on the week, while blasting two home runs and recording 11 RBI, while posting a slugging percentage of 1.231 to help lead the Trojans to four wins on the week and a perfect 6-0 start to the season, marking Anderson's best start since 2010. The Trojans swept Conference Carolinas-foe North Greenville, 6-5 and 10-3, on the road Thursday and took two from Chowan, 8-0 and 9-1 on Sunday, with three of the decisions coming in shortened contests.

The 5-foot-5 shortstop started all four games and went 8-for-13 over the week, with two doubles and a walk in addition to the pair of homers. Child also scored five runs and added a sacrifice fly.

Child has started every game and leads the SAC in RBI, ranks second in total hits, third in doubles, fourth in batting average and fifth in on-base and slugging percentage.

"Abby is so very deserving," said Anderson head coach Tommy Hewitt. "She should be as proud of herself as we are of her."

The Trojans return to action on Saturday, welcoming GRU Augusta to Smethers Field for a noon doubleheader.
