Trojans Maintain Presence in NABC/Division II Coaches’ Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After opening the season with three consecutive road victories, the Anderson men's basketball team continued to receive votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Coaches' poll, as released on Tuesday.

The Trojans, who were named a "team to watch" by the Division II Bulletin in the preseason and earned votes in the NABC Division II Coaches' Preseason Poll, continue to garner attention and edge toward a Top-25 ranking.

AU began the season with back-to-back wins at the HCCU PBC-SAC Challenge, hosted by GRU Augusta, on Nov. 9-10. The Trojans knocked off Lander, 61-60, and followed by holding off the host Jaguars, 91-86, a day later at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Trojans wrapped up their season-opening three-game road swing by defeating rival Erskine, 60-55, last Tuesday night in Due West, S.C.

The Trojans joined fellow SAC members Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman in the NABC Poll, with LMU moving up two spots to 13th in Tuesday's rankings, while the Eagles jumped from No. 22 to 16th. The Railsplitters opened the season by defeating Hiwassee at home and followed up by edging King University, 86-80, on the road last Saturday. Carson-Newman also opened the campaign with a pair of home wins, defeating Barton and Trevecca Nazarene by convincing margins.

Anderson's last appearance in the NABC Coaches' Poll came during the 2011-12 campaign that saw the Trojans enter the poll at No. 24 in February and finish 14th after earning a berth in the Sweet 16 and posting a school-record 26 wins.

The Trojans will be looking to equal the 2009-10 squad's hot start to the season with its fourth consecutive win, as the Trojans play host to Brevard in the conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night. Tip-off at the Abney Athletic Center is slated for 8 p.m.
