Track and Field Wraps up Regular Season with Seven First-Place Finishes at Susan Rouse Invitational

CENTRAL, S.C. – Paced by seven first-place performances, the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams closed out the regular season at Southern Wesleyan's Susan Rouse Invitational, Saturday afternoon.

Junior Anthony Aleruchi posted his second first-place finish in as many days by winning the discus throw with a toss of 43.51 meters, while freshman Chandler Johnson finished seventh with a distance of 32.97 meters. Aleruchi took fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 12.29 meters and Johnson was 10th with a distance of 10.39 meters.

Junior Christopher Burton won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.88, with freshman Jordan Anderson finishing seventh in a time of 11.25. Burton also won the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.59, with Anderson claiming eighth in a time of 22.47.

Junior Mason Hazel won the men's 1,500 meter run in a time of 3:59.92, while senior Ben Boerma (4:09.49) and Brooks Hovis (4:10.02) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Luke Horne was ninth in a time of 4:19.01, while senior Michael Burch (4:25.31) and junior John Drummond (4:27.43) claimed 18th and 19th, respectively.

Hazel finished second in the men's 800 meters in a time of 1:57.71, while Hovis was seventh in a time of 2:02.61 and Boerma was 16th in a time of 2:08.19. Drummond (2:16.10 and Burch (2:18.60) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

Freshman Matthew Shoup claimed second in the men's high jump with a height of 1.80 meters, with senior Eric Hoover taking second place in the men's triple jump with a distance of 12.97 meters.

Junior Rashod Monts crossed the finish line in fifth in the men's 400 meters in a time of 50.73, while sophomore Brandon Kauer was 11th in a time of 51.85.

Anderson, Monts, Burton and Kauer teamed up and claimed fifth in the men's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:28.07

On the women's side, freshman Jolyn Copeland also notched her second win in as many days by bringing home first place on the women's shot put with a toss of 11.16 meters, while taking second place in the discus throw with a distance of 34.06 meters.

Junior Haylee Love won the women's 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:28.12, with senior Grace Gerlock bringing home third place in a time of 19:10.26. Junior Hannah Sanford crossed the finish line in fifth place in a time of 19:29.68, while senior Mia Swierzs finished ninth in a time of 20:11.60. Freshman Emily Olson rounded out the Trojan contingent in 21st place in a time of 21:33.79.

Senior Olivia Gardner won the women's 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:49.22, with sophomore Abigail Bozarth claiming third place after crossing the line in a time of 4:54.00. Sophomore Martha Coleman (5:00.13) and freshman Breck Jones (5:00.50) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with freshman Rebecca Faircloth finishing ninth in a time of 5:06.78 and sophomore Maddie Buddenberg was 11th in a time of 5:11.46.

Freshman Jasmine Barmore finished third in the women's 400 meters in a time of 1:00.09, with classmate Emilee Edwards bringing home sixth place in a time of 1:02.34. Barmore was sixth in the women's 200 meter dash in a time of 26.20.

Bridges (2:22.25), Gardner (2:25.06) and Emily Pitts (2:25.82) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the women's 800 meter run, with senior Bari Robinson claiming ninth in a time of 2:27.71. Freshman Rebecca Faircloth was 13th in a time of 2:30.07 and freshman Rebecca Faircloth was 13th in a time of 2:30.07. Junior Taylor Morris finished 19th in a time of 2:35.59.

The combination of Barmore, Edwards, Pitts and Bridges finished third in the women's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:07.94.

The Trojans are next slated to compete at the SAC Championships, which will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne, Friday and Saturday in Hickory, N.C.
