Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Emory Classic

ATLANTA – The Anderson University men's track and field teams opened their respective outdoor seasons with five top-10 finishes at the Emory Classic, hosted by the Eagles, Friday at the Woodruff PE Center.

Freshman Matthew Shoup shared fifth place in the men's high jump with a height of 1.84 meters, while junior Anthony Aleruchi finished 12th in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 35.79 meters. Freshman Chandler Johnson finished 19th in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 22.72 meters.

Sophomore John Drummond finished sixth in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:48.50, while senior Philip DeGraaf finished ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 42.23 meters. Senior Eric Hoover finished 13th in the javelin throw with a distance of 39.33 meters and junior Vojtech Velecky placed 20th in the javelin throw with a distance of 32.43 meters

Junior Hannah Sanford finished second in the women's 10,000 meter run in a time of 40:16.98, with sophomore Maddie Buddenberg finishing 11th in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:50.05. Freshman Breck Jones finished ninth in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:38.69.

The Classic is scheduled to wrap up with a pair of sessions in Saturday.
