Track and Field Continues Assault on School Record Books at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Anderson men's and women's track and field teams posted their second straight week of stellar performances at the Wake Forest Invitational, Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.

A week after notching 30 performances that ranked in the top-10 in the AU record books at the Clemson Invitational, the Trojans posted nearly 20 top-10 times on Saturday.

Jasmine Barmore posted the fifth-best time in school history for the second straight week by crossing the finish line in a time of 8.23 in the preliminaries of the women's 6o meters. The freshman also claimed 39th in the finals of the 200 meters, while sophomore Madison Seay captured 38th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.34, marking the 11th-fastest in the AU record books.

Freshman Morgan Bridges (2:28.87) posted the program's ninth-fastest time with an 18th-place finish in the women's 800 meters, with freshman Rebecca Faircloth notching 24th-place in a time of 2:31.68. Senior Bari Robinson claimed the 30th spot in a time of 2:34.38.

Junior Haylee Love paced the Trojan effort in the mile run by finishing eighth in a time of 5:13.52 – the second-fastest time in school history. Senior Mia Swierzs (5:52.04) finished in the 30th slot, with freshman Emily Olson claiming 43rd in a time of 6:50.74.

Senior Olivia Gardner recorded the third-fastest time in AU record books in the women's 3,000 meter run with a fourth-place finish in a time of 10:28.02. Junior Hannah Sanford (11:34.60) was 20th, while Grace Gerlock finished 23rd in a time of 11:41.44. Senior Amber Worthy (13:06.37) placed 37th.

Sophomore Martha Coleman crossed the finish line in a time of 18:56.92 to claim third place in the women's 5,000 meter run, with sophomore Abigail Bozarth (19:19.73) and Maddie Buddenberg (20:02.68) finishing sixth and ninth, respectively. Coleman's time marked the third-best time in school history.

The women's 4x400 meter relay, consisting of Barmore, Robinson, Emily Pitts and Taylor Morris finished eighth in a time of 4:25.30, while the distance medley relay team of Love, Barmore, Bridges and Gardner claimed third place in a time of 12:55.44 – also third best in AU record books.

Sophomore JoLyn Copeland finished 26th in the shot put with a toss of 9.92 meters and 18th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.79 meters. Both distances are in the top five in program history.

On the men's side, juniors Christopher Burton (7.08) and Caleb Stephenson (7.17), along with newcomer Jordan Anderson (7.18) all posted top-10 AU times in the 60 meter preliminaries.

Burton finished third in the men's 200 meter finals in a time of 22.38, which stands fifth in the school record books. Stephenson (22.92) and junior Rashod Monts (23.20) finished 13th and 23rd with times in AU's top-10, with Anderson finishing 33rd in a time of 23.96. Monts also claimed 10th in the 400 meters in a time of 50.79, which stands third all-time.

Freshman Brooks Hovis etched his name in the school record books by finishing 24th in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:04.36, which stands sixth all-time. Freshman Luke Horne captured 36rh in the event in a time of 2:09.29. Hovis (4:44.08) and Horne (4:46.16) finished 29t and 30th, respectively in the mile run.

Senior Ben Boerma (15:55.07) claimed fourth place in the men's 5,000 meters, with senior Michael Burch (16:41.08) finishing eighth and junior John Drummond (17:01.90) 11th. Boerma's time was fourth in the AU record books.

The distance medley squad of Horne, Stephenson, Hovis and Mason Hazel captured third in a time of 10:41.54. Freshman Matthew Shoup was 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters, with sophomore Luke Rochester placing fifth in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters.

Senior Eric Hoover (12.88 meters) finished sixth in the triple jump, with junior Anthony Aleruchi taking 17th in the shot put with a toss of 11.99 meters. Freshman Chandler Johnson finished 29th with a distance of 9.89 meters. Aleruchi (13.05 meters) finished 14th in the weight throw, with Johnson (6.86 meters) claiming 29th.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back in action at East Tennessee State's Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn.
