Haylee Love Earns Spot at NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On the strength of her school-record performance in the mile run two weeks ago at Clemson's Last Chance Invitational, Anderson junior Haylee Love has earned a berth in the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, as announced by the NCAA.

Love posted her 4.53.61 qualifying time on Feb. 17, when she won the mile run at the Tiger's Indoor Complex, and in the process eclipsed former AU standout Whitney Bishoff's previous mark by nearly four seconds.

The championships will be held March 9-11 in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex, as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships Winter Festival. The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Birmingham CrossPlex will serve as co-hosts of the championships.

Love is the first Anderson student-athlete to make an appearance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships since Bishoff posted a seventh-place finish in the qualifying round of the 2011 NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.

The qualifying run is slated for 4:30 p.m. (Central) on Thursday, March 9, with the finals set for 3:15 p.m. (Central) on Saturday, March 11.

Joining Love in Birmingham as the only two women's competitors from the South Atlantic Conference will be Queens' Nikia Squire, who claimed berths in the 60 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the long jump.

The native of Lexington, S.C. also claimed a berth in the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships in St. Leo, Fla. last November.
