Pfeiffer Women Surge Into First Place

CLEMMONS, N.C. -- Pfeiffer shot a 312 to pass first-round leader Belmont Abbey in the second round of the Women's CVAC Tournament Monday at the par-71, 5,800-yard Salem Glen Golf and Country Club. Pfeiffer posted three scores in the 70s to fire the best round of the day. The Falcons have a 36-hole total of 621, 13 shots better than Belmont Abbey at 634. The Crusaders posted just one score under 80 to shoot 330, 26 shots higher than their first-round score. Brittany Beltran led the Falcons with a 72. She was followed by Charlene Reid with a 75, and Andrea Grier with a 79. Anderson University is third at 646, Queens University of Charlotte is fourth at 678, St. Andrews Presbyterian is fifth at 695, Mount Olive is sixth at 697, and Limestone is seventh at 713. Anderson had the second-best round Monday with a 320. Erin May shot 76 and was followed by Carlie Eastman 79, Sophie Dembroski 80, and Jenny Fretwell 85. Beltran, at 2-under 140 after two rounds, has a nine-shot lead in the individual part of the tournament. Alessandra Maurtua of St. Andrews is second at 149, and Katie Clayton of Limestone is third at 152. The final round will be played Tuesday morning. 2007 CVAC Women's Golf Second Round Results
