GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Belmont University shot an opening round 309 to take the first-round lead at the 10th Annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational Monday at Link Hills Country Club. Anderson University shot a 335 in the first round and stands in 11th place in the 17-team event. Belmont leads by nine shots and was paced by first-round leader Lorie Warren, who fired a two-over par 74. Newberry is in second place with 318. Franziska Blum and Eva Cormann, both from Newberry, are in a four-way tie for second at 75. Joining the Newberry duo is Jaynelle Harmon of Catawba and Pfeiffer's Charlene Reid. Tournament host Tusculum College is in third place with 320. The Pioneers were led by senior Amanda Bowen who is in a four-way tie for sixth place with 77. Christina Crovetti (UNC Pembroke), Kristi Piepenbrink (Indianapolis) and Esther Moon (Belmont) also are tied for sixth with Bowen. Three players are tied for 10th at 78, including Carley Warrington (Belmont Abbey), Ashleigh Garman (Belmont) and Brittany Staton (Wingate). Anderson's opening round scores were: Sophie Dembroski 79, Carlie Eastman 83, Erin May 84, and Jenny Odle 89. Dembroski is in a tie for 13th place. Wingate is in fourth place in the team standings with 321, while Indianapolis and Catawba shot 322 and 325, respectively. Three teams posted 326 and are tied for seventh place including Belmont Abbey, USC Upstate and Pfeiffer. The final round of the 36-hole tournament will be played on Tuesday on the par-72, 5,804-yard layout.
