Lady Trojans Win Upstate Classic

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Anderson University women's golf team improved its team score by 28 shots in the second round to win the Upstate Classic Monday at the Cherokee National Golf Club. All five players in the Anderson lineup improved by five shots or more in the second round. Anderson shot 340 in the second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 708. St. Andrews Presbyterian was second at 730, and host Limestone was third at 733. Katie Clayton of Limestone, who shot 81 in the second round, won the individual title with a total of 165. Alessandra Maurtua of St. Andrews was second at 167, and Anderson's Sophie Dembroski was third at 171. Erin May of Anderson was fourth at 173. Dembroski's 82 was Anderson's lowest second-round score. Anderson's other three scores were: Erin May 84, Carlie Eastman 86, and Jenny Odle 88.
