Women's Golf Team In Eighth Place

SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Anderson University women's golf team is in eighth place after the first round of the 10-team Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury Monday. Host Catawba fired a 310 on the par-72, 5,949-yard Salisbury course to take the first-round lead. Newberry is second at 314, Wingate is third at 318, and Pfeiffer is fourth at 320. Anderson is in eighth place at 336, but the Lady Trojans are just eight shots behind fifth-place Belmont Abbey. Erin May and Carlie Eastman both shot 83 to lead Anderson. Sophie Dembroski and Jenny Fretwell both shot 85 to round out Anderson's four first-round scores. Newberry's Franziska Blum shot a 2-under 70 to take first-round individual lead. Three players -- Melissa Kepley of Catawba, Beth Kirkham of Wingate, and Christina Crovetti of UNC Pembroke -- are tied for second at 74. The second round will be played Tuesday morning.
