Belmont Abbey Leads Women's CVAC Tournament

CLEMMONS, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey had four players shoot 78 or lower to take the first round lead in the Women's CVAC Tournament at the par-71, 5,900-yard Salem Glen Golf And Country Club Sunday afternoon. Belmont Abbey, led by Jordan Kennon's 2-over 73, posted a 309 to take a five-shot lead over Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer was led by first-round individual leader Brittany Beltran, who fired a 3-under 68. Anderson is third at 326, Queens University of Charlotte is fourth at 339, Mount Olive is fifth at 347, St. Andrews Presbyterian is sixth at 352, and Limestone is seventh at 358. Belmont Abbey's other three scores were: Dessa Bokides 76, Carley Warrington 77, and Ashton Ingram 78. Anderson was led by Sophie Dembroski and Carlie Eastman, who both shot 79. Jenny Fretwell posted an 81, and Jenny Odle shot 87. Following Beltran and Kennon in the individual standings are Alessandra Maurtua of St. Andrews (74), Bokides and Katie Clayton of Limestone (76), and Warrington and Kristen Freeman of Mount Olive (77). The first round was played in warm, sunny conditions with a light breeze.
