Trojans Fall At Wingate; 86-51

WINGATE, N.C. – Anderson University (8-7, 2-3 SAC) could not find its rhythm, falling to South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate (11-3, 4-2 SAC), 86-51 on Wednesday evening at Cuddy Arena.

"They wanted it and we didn't, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "You can't not show up and allow a team to shoot that well and expect to win."

Anderson hit the opening jumper with Wingate responding with a 12-0 run to eventually close out the quarter with a 10-point lead. Wingate pushed its opening quarter lead to 22 points after winning the second quarter of action, 22-10, to head into the locker room with a 45-23 advantage. The Trojans could not dig themselves out of the deficit, eventually losing the contest by 35 points.

Anderson shot a dismal 12.5 % (2-of-16) from behind the arc while the Bulldogs shot 50% from the field, including 50% from the three-point area.

AU senior Brittney Stafford scored a team-high nine points while sophomore Diamond McDowell and senior Jalyn Spurlin netted eight points apiece.  Senior Britney Bailey and freshman Ashlyn Sheridan each grabbed six rebounds on the evening.

Wingate placed four players in double-digit scoring with Bryanna Troutman leading the way with a game-high 13 points. Emily Hege and Lauren Sullivan each contributed 11 points while Hannah Clark chipped in 10 points.

Anderson returns home to host South Atlantic Conference opponent Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
