Stafford and Dotson Named Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Brittney Stafford of the women's basketball team and Elliot Dotson of the men's track and field team have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Male Athletes of the Week, for the week ending Jan. 15.

Stafford, a senior from New Braunfels, Texas, helped lead the Trojans to a 66-58 South Atlantic Conference win last week over Lincoln Memorial and their fourth win over a five-game span.

The 5-4 guard, poured in a team-high 19 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists and was credited with two steals. Stafford made 8-of-8 from the free throw line where she holds an impressive 91.7 percent (33-36) season average.

Dotson, a freshman from Simpsonville, S.C., placed second in the 3,000m run at the Gamecock Opener on Saturday (Jan. 14). He recorded a time of 8:29 in his first collegiate indoor race and moved to No.2 on the all-time AU list in the event. Dotson was the top Division II finisher in the field of 44 runners, as the performance puts him ranked second in the SAC this year.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
