Trojans Advance; Take Down Eagles, 72-64

Jefferson City, Tenn. – After dropping the previous six meeting against the Eagles, Anderson University women's basketball (17-12) took down the defending South Atlantic Conference Tournament Champions, Carson-Newman (17-12), 72-64 in a quarterfinal SAC game on Wednesday evening at Holt Fieldhouse.

"So proud of this team," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "To come here and beat one of the best teams in our conference on their home court is no easy feat."

"From the start, I thought our defense was locked in and frustrated their scorers, stated Barbaree. "From there, we started to see our shots go in and our confidence grew."

"I know we couldn't hold Wykle down forever, she is too good of a player, but it was good to see us guard and rebound the ball," added Barbaree.

"Diamond was a monster again for us tonight," stated Barbaree. "But, honestly each player stepped up in key moment."

"We are going to enjoy this one tonight, then get ready for the next one," said Barbaree.

Anderson jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and eventually won the opening quarter, 14-11. The Black and Gold was able to stretch out its lead after outscoring the Eagles, 23-12 in the second period.
