Women’s Basketball Releases 2022-23 Schedule

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University women's basketball head coach Jonathon Barbaree has released his 2022-23 schedule on Monday, which will begin in the middle of November.

The 2021-22 edition of the Trojans closed the season with a 21-10 overall record, going 10-1 over the last stretch of the regular season. Despite its solid play and an appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship game, the Black and Gold were left on the outside looking in of the NCAA Tournament for the second season in a row.

The regular season for the Black and Gold begins on Nov. 11 when it travels to UVA Wise for the Conference Challenge. Anderson will square off on Friday versus Clayton State and then tip-off with Flagler on Saturday. The Trojans fell to both members of the Peach Belt Conference at the Challenge hosted by Flagler, a season ago, before winning its next five contests.

Due to the new conference divisional alignment, the Trojans will face nine nonconference opponents. In addition to the two Peach Belt Conference members, Clayton State and Flagler, AU will also play fellow members Young Harris, Columbus State and Augusta. The Trojans are slated to play three members of the Conference Carolinas (Southern Wesleyan, Belmont Abbey and Mt. Olive), as well as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Savannah State for a home and home series.

Despite having a relatively balanced home and away schedule with two neutral games, 14 away games and 12 home matchups, the Trojans play on the road for the first eight of nine contests. For the month of November, Anderson will only play one home game (Mount Olive) within the friendly confines of the Abney Athletic Center.

After a lengthy five-game road swing, the Black and Gold finish out the month of December with four straight home games, featuring two nonconference opponents (Savannah State and Augusta) and two SAC foes (Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne).

Following the Christmas break, Anderson continues its conference schedule with a more traditional home and away travel schedule with no more than a two-game road stretch at a time. In the month of January, the Trojans have trips to Coker, Wingate (twice) and Catawba, which will prove to be tough stretch. AU will host Lincoln Memorial, Coker and UVA Wise, before beginning its final stretch of contests in the month of February.

Anderson will begin the month of February hosting Newberry, before heading to new SAC member Emory & Henry for a program first-ever meeting. The Trojans return home to face top-tier Catawba, with 2021-22 runner-up regular season team and SAC Tournament champion Carson-Newman waiting on a weekend rumble. AU will remain on the road to face Lenoir-Rhyne, before returning home to face Limestone and then Tusculum for Senior Day. Anderson finalizes its regular season slate on the road at Mars Hill.

The opening round of the SAC Tournament (March 1) will be hosted by the top-four teams in the conference standings, while the semifinals (March 4) and championship (March 4) will return to Greenville, S.C. at Furman University's Timmons Arena.
