Duncan, Rhodes and Cason Named to SAC Softball All-Tournament Team

ROCK HILL, S.C. - One day following the Trojans' appearance in their first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship title game, three Anderson University softball players were named to the All-Tournament team, as announced by the league office.

Senior pitcher Amber Duncan and a pair of freshmen, Bri Cason and Rachel Rhodes earned the accolades following stellar performances at the four-day event. The trio helped lead Anderson to three wins before the Trojans were edged 4-3 by top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne.

Duncan went 3-2 in the circle and posting an impressive 1.45 ERA, while starting all five games for the Trojans. The right-hander tossed 33 innings and surrendered 11 runs (seven earned) on 33 hits, while striking out 13 batters.

Rhodes started four of AU's five tournament contests, garnering four hits in nine trips to the plate for a team-best .444 batting average. The designated player from Lawrenceville, Ga., also had a walk in the 7-4 win past Catawba on Thursday.

Cason started all five games for the Trojans at third base, while posting a .231 batting average and scored four runs. She ripped a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, including a two-RBI double against the Indians.

Lenoir-Rhyne hurler Dawon Millwood was named Most Valuable Player after going 4-0 at the championship, giving up just four runs in 26 innings pitched to go along with 12 strikeouts. She had the tourney's lowest ERA at 1.08.

Joining Millwood on the All-Tournament Team from Lenoir-Rhyne were outfielder Brittany Coursen, third baseman Haily Jarman and infielder Jody Mizelle.

On the week, Mizelle hit .462 with three RBI. Coursen, meanwhile, had the tourney's highest batting average at .636, while Jarman hit .400 with three extra-base hits.

Catawba's Ali Justice, Amanda Terry and Tara Gibbs earned spots on the team, as did Carson-Newman's Bri Shoemake and Mary Shealy.

Shoemake tied L-R's Coursen for the championship lead with seven hits, Shealy had the most RBI with eight and home runs with three, and Terry led the event with three doubles.

Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Mars Hill's Natalie Haithcox, who hit an even .500 at the Championship with a home run and a double.
