BELMONT, N.C. - Freshman Rebecca Martin's double to left-center drove home what proved to be the tying run in the opener and she scored the winning run in both games, as Anderson swept Belmont Abbey, 4-3 and 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Crusader Field.

Anderson (17-3) has won two straight and 17 of its last 18 games, while Belmont Abbey slipped to 2-12 on the season.

Game #1
Anderson 4, Belmont Abbey 3

Sophomore shortstop Abby Child went 3-for-4, with a double and two singles in the opener, while fellow sophomore Danielle Swygert was 2-for-3 and recorded a walk. Freshman Jessica Neidigh finished 2-for-4 and scored two runs, while Martin had a double and a walk along with the run scored.

With the score knotted at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Trojans pushed a pair of runs across to take a lead they would not relinquish. Neidigh was hit by a pitch to open the frame and crossed the plate with the go-ahead run on Martin's double to left-center.

One batter later Child singled to right to score Martin with what proved to be the winning run.

The Crusaders capitalized on an Anderson error in the bottom half of the innings to pull within one run, but were unable to cross the plate with the equalizer.

Larissa Ostapiak improved to 8-1 on the season with her team-leading ninth complete game of the season, while striking out seven and walking just two.

Game #2
Anderson 2, Belmont Abbey 1 (8 innings)

Freshman Bri Cason had a single and scored a run in the extra-inning affair, while Swygert was 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Martin had a single and scored the game-winning run on Laura Jansky's clutch two-out sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning.

Belmont Abbey scored their lone run in the top of the first inning, as Anderson hurler Amber Duncan (8-1) struggled early with her control, surrendering three walks. But the Crusaders managed just the one score as Duncan settled down. The right-hander gave up just two hits over the remaining six frames, while striking out eight and retiring the side in order in three innings.

The Trojans evened the score at 1-1 with a run in the fifth, as Cason led off the inning with a single up the middle and moved into scoring position on senior Brooke Lucas' sacrifice bunt. The speedy Cason went to third when Neidigh bounced out to second and crossed the plate on Martin's two-out single to left.

Neither team threatened in either the sixth or seventh frames and Martin was placed on second to open the top of the eighth inning. She went to third when Child bounced out to short and following a walk to Swygert, Jansky lofted her sacrifice fly to right field.

Anderson will wrap up its four-game road swing at Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday.
