ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Georgia Southwestern, falling 3-2 in game one but rallying to claim a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field.

Anderson (25-5) had its win streak halted at four and their string of consecutive non-conference wins snapped at six in the opener, but bounced back to shut out the Hurricanes (13-19), who snapped an eight-game losing skid in game one.

Game #1
Georgia Southwestern 3, Anderson 2

Freshman Jessica Neidigh led the Trojans offensively in the opener, notching three singles in four at-bats and also scored a run. Sophomore Laura Jansky went 1-for-3 and recorded an RBI.

Anderson jumped on top early, as the first five Trojans reached base safely. Neidigh, freshman Rebecca Martin and sophomore Abby Child recorded back-to-back-to-back singles to jam the bases and Danielle Swygert drew a walk to force home a run. Jansky singled through the left side to plate Martin and give AU the 2-0 advantage, but that would end the scoring for the Trojans as Hurricane hurler Jessica Martin settled down to allow just three Anderson hits over the final six innings.

Georgia Southwestern evened the score on a two-run homer over the right-field fence off the bat of senior Gabby Buck in the fourth and the Hurricanes took the one-run advantage in the top of the seventh when Jessica Chewning drew a two-out bases-loaded walk.

The Trojans threatened in their final at-bat by loading the bases with one out, but were unable to capitalize.

Martin earned the win for the Hurricanes, allowing the two runs off seven hits over seven innings, while striking out four and walking three.

Larissa Ostapiak (12-2) suffered the hard-luck loss, tossing a complete game, while allowing three runs on just five hits. The right-hander struck out five and walked two.
Game #2
Anderson 3, Georgia Southwestern 0

Anderson senior hurler Amber Duncan (12-2) scattered four hits over seven innings and struck out five Hurricanes as the right-hander out-dueled GSW senior Katie Maddox (3-6) for the complete-game shutout, her team-leading fifth of the season.

Maddox allowed just two hits through the first five innings, but Neidigh led off the sixth with a single through the left side and one out later, sophomore shortstop Abby Child blasted her ninth home run of the season to give AU the 2-0 lead. Two batters later Jansky ripped a two-out shot over the fence to boost the Trojan lead to 3-0.

The Trojans get back in South Atlantic Conference action with a Saturday doubleheader at Mars Hill. First-pitch versus the Lions is slated for 1 p.m
