JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Anderson University softball team suffered a pair of narrow South Atlantic Conference road setbacks, 5-3 and 4-3 , at Carson-Newman as Lady Eagle senior Mary Shealy earned two wins in the circle Friday afternoon at the Lady Eagle Softball Complex.

Anderson (31-9, 9-5 SAC) suffered its first sweep since the opening day of the 2012 campaign and dropped its third straight, while Carson-Newman improved to 25-18 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

Game #1
Carson-Newman 5, Anderson 3

Freshman Neidigh led the Trojans offensively, going 2-for-4 in the opener and scored a run, while sophomore shortstop Abby Child was 1-for-3 and scored twice. Fellow sophomore Danielle Swygert added a first-inning RBI double and freshman Bri Cason notched a single in three trips to the plate.

Senior Amber Duncan (17-5) absorbed the loss, giving up five runs off six hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out five, while walking a season-high nine batters. Shealy (24-18) scattered six hits over seven innings, while striking out seven and walking three.

The Trojans took a quick two-run lead in the top of the first inning, as Neidigh led off the game with a single back up the middle and following freshman Rebecca Martin's sacrifice bunt, she crossed the plate on Child's one-out single. Swygert then stepopped to the plate and ripped her team-leading 13th double of the season to center field to bring home Child all the way from first.

The Lady Eagles climbed within 2-1 with a solo run in the second inning, then took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning, as catcher Bri Shoemake notched a two-out two run double.

Carson-Newman went ahead 5-2 with another run in the fifth when left fielder Cassie Elliott drew a bases-loaded walk with one out.
Anderson climbed within two after countering with an unearned run in the top of the sixth on sophomore Laura Jansky's RBI single.

Neidigh led off the final inning with a single, but was stranded at second as the Trojans were unable to capitalize.

Game #2
Carson-Newman 5, Anderson 3

Martin finished the nightcap 1-for-2 and crossed the plate once, while Child was 1-for-2 with a walk and drove in two runs. Swygert notched a double and a walk and sophomore Laura Jansky posted an RBI double in the sixth.

Duncan (17-6) went six innings in the nightcap, surrendering four runs off nine hits. She struck out three and walked three. Shealy (25-18) earned the win after giving up three runs on five hits over seven innings. She walked three batters.

Shealy led off the seventh inning with a walk-off home run to center field to lift the Lady Eagles to the win.

The Trojans began the nightcap just as they had the opener, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, with Child ripping a two-RBI double to center, plating Neidigh and Martin.

Carson-Newman evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth, while the Trojans regained a brief one-run advantage in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Swygert and Jansky.

But the lead was short-lived, as the Lady Eagles responded with an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the frame, setting up Shealy's seventh-inning heroics.

The Trojans return to action on Wednesday, when the Newberry Wolves invade Smethers Field for a doubleheader slated for 3 p.m.
