ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson freshman second baseman Jessica Neidigh was named the South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The Lawrenceville, Ga., native closed the final week of the regular season by hitting .520 (13-for-25) on the week, while recording a slugging percentage of .960 to help lead the Trojans to a 3-1 SAC record (4-2 overall) on the week, as AU clinched the third seed in the league tournament, while setting a new school record for wins in a season, going 35-11 overall.
The Trojans earned three SAC wins on the week, out-slugging
Newberry, 9-4, on Wednesday and sweeping Tusculum, 7-6 and 10-6 on
the final day of league action Saturday. AU split with Erskine,
falling 6-5 in extra innings but earned a 7-5 win in the nightcap
on Thursday.
Neidigh also improved to 3-1 in the circle on the season with the
complete-game 7-5 win past the Flying Fleet last Thursday.
The 5-foot-8 second baseman started all six games, notching 13 hits in 25 at-bats, including two home runs, three doubles and a triple, while scoring eight runs and driving in nine. The rookie has started all 46 games on the season and leads the league in batting, hits, runs scored and ranks third in total bases and fourth in stolen bases.
Anderson opens the SAC Tournament against sixth-seeded Brevard in Thursday's opening round at 1 p.m. The tourney is being hosted by Tusculum at Red Edmonds Field in Greeneville, Tenn.
