Trojan Softball Wins Sixth Straight with Sweep of Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Anderson University softball team pounded out 24 hits en route to sweeping a doubleheader from Meredith College, 11-4 and 15-6, Sunday afternoon at the Meredith Softball Complex.

Anderson claimed its sixth consecutive win with the sweep, moving to 6-2 on the season, while Meredith slipped to 0-2.

The Avenging Angels took a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one, but the Trojans answered by scoring their 11 runs over the next four innings to claim the win.

Anderson opened the nightcap by plating 10 runs in the top of the first frame and never trailed en route to the run-rule decision.

Sophomore Danielle Swygert led the Trojans offensively, finishing the day 5-for-7, with a triple, a double and three singles while driving in three runs and scoring four times. Fellow sophomore Laura Jansky went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, scored three times and recorded three RBI. Newcomer Rachel Rhodes ripped four hits in seven at-bats, including a three-run homer in game one. Bri Cason was 2-for-4 and Rebecca Martin was 3-for-7 with a pair of triples, three RBI and scored five times.

Senior Amber Duncan (3-0) earned the win in game one, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Freshman Jessica Neidigh (1-1) earned her first win, going five complete innings and striking out five while walking two.

Anderson closes out its season-opening 10-game road swing with a twinbill at Clark Atlanta on Wednesday. First-pitch versus the Panthers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
