Four Trojans Earn All-Conference Softball Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After helping lead the Trojans to the most wins in school history (35) and the No. three seed in this week's South Atlantic Conference softball tournament, Abby Child, Jessica Neidigh, Amber Duncan and Rebecca Martin have earned all-conference honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Child was named First-Team All-Conference and SAC Player of the Year after starting all 46 regular-season games. The native of LaGrange, Ga., is 12th in the nation in RBI per game and is 14th in the country with 14 home runs. The 5-foot-5 shortstop leads the league with 57 RBI and is second in hitting with her .432 batting average and also ranks second in slugging percentage (.784), on-base pct (.506) and total bases with 116. Child wrapped up the regular season 64 hits, 46 runs scored and 20 walks - all good for third in the league.

Neidigh was the First-Team All-Conference selection at second base, becoming the second consecutive AU player to be chosen Freshman of the Year, after first baseman Danielle Swygert in 2011. She was named conference Player of the Week this past Monday and started all 46 regular-season games, while ranking fourth nationally in runs per game and 15th in hitting with her .463 batting average. Neidigh led the league in five offensive categories - batting, hits (81), runs scored (60), total bases (117 and is tied for first with 15 doubles. A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Neidigh also ranks among the top five in the SAC in four additional offensive categories and was perfect in stolen bases, going 16-of-16 on the season.

Duncan, a senior from Matthews, N.C., earned Second-Team All-Conference accolades as a designated player. She saw action in 36 games this season and led the team with 20 wins in the circle, which ranked 17th in the country. The right-hander posted 14 complete games and was second in the league with seven shutouts. He innings pitched (173 2/3) and 20-win tally ranked fifth in the SAC and she was seventh in the conference in both appearances (30) and ERA (2.50).

Martin was named to the second team as an outfielder after starting 42 games and seeing action in 45 contests. She was fifth on Trojans' potent offensive attack with a .307 batting average, while ranking third in the conference with 42 runs scored. Martin is currently tied for second in the nation with four triples on the season.

Anderson opens the conference tourney Thursday afternoon against sixth-seeded Brevard at Tusculum's Red Edmonds Field in Greeneville, Tenn. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
