PUEBLO, Colo. - Anderson University junior Matt Shaffer recorded a 16th-place finish in the 800-meter preliminaries at the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Friday night at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on Colorado State University's campus.
A native of Grove City, Ohio, Shaffer entered the event as the top-ranked 800-meter runner in the Southeast Region and ranked third nationally in the event, but unfortunately was tripped with 250 meters to go and posted a time of 2:01.61, which was well off his school-record pace of 1:50.36. Shaffer was unable to advance to Saturday's finals.
