Men’s Track and Field Finishes Seventh at Southeast Regional Championship

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University men's track and field team placed seventh at the Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Junior Zach Hart captured first place in the javelin throw with a distance of 55.05 meters, while junior Will Byars (45.35 meters) and freshman Nathan Plank (38.30 meters) finished third and sixth, respectively.

Byars also collected a fourth-place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 38.01 meters and Plank was fifth with a distance of 37.65 meters, while Byars posted a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.25 meters.

Sophomore Brant Bullister took home sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.93 meters, with Plank capturing seventh at 36.20 meters.

Freshman Jonathan Chapman finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters, while junior Josh Butler was 11th in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line in 11.24. Junior Alex Pena notched fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:10.20, while in the 1,500 meter run, sophomore Deniz Hay crossed the line in 3:57.81 to finish second and junior Rhyne Welch (4:18.13) finished 12th.

Hay earned an 11th-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.08, while Drew Mahaffey took 12th in a time of 2:01.59.
