DURHAM, N.C. - The Anderson University track and field teams set three new school records and set a new national mark at Friday and Saturday's 2012 Duke Invitational held at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Junior Matt Shaffer ran the fastest 800 meter time in the nation (1:50.36) in NCAA Division II this season and is currently ranked first in the country. The school-record was good enough for fifth at the event and is a provisional qualifying time, narrowly missing the automatic qualifying mark.

Sophomore Kyle Koby also set a new Anderson University record by finishing 18th in a time of 32:54.67 in the 10,000 meter run, while freshman Brooklyn Watkins notched a new school record with a distance of 36.28 meters in the javelin throw, which was good enough for 14th.

Senior Sarah Solesbee (27.59) and freshman Jill Baxter (28.15) finished 12th and 19th, respectively in the developmental heat of the 200 meter dash, while senior Whitney Bishoff crossed the finish line 18th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:43.39.

Freshman Sydney Hazel (4:57.83) notched third in the 1,500 meter developmental heat, with sophomore Rachel Westberry (5:09.48) earning 16th.

Freshman Brooklyn Watt (12.13 meters) posted an 11th-place finish in the shot put, with senior Lauren Sloan garnering 13th (11.76 meters). Watt also earned ninth in the discus with a toss of 38.10 meters and Sloan captured 10th in the hammer throw with a distasnce of 43.37 meters.

Sophomore Deniz Hay finished 20th in the men's 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:58.58, while junior Ryne Welch captured 16th in the 1,500 meter developmental heat with a time of 4:19.59.

Junior Alex Pena notched 18th (9:57.33) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Will Byars took 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.23 meters. Sophomore Parks Edwards earned 16th in the C section of the men's 5,000 meter run.

Next up for the Trojans are the regional championships, slated for April 20-21, in Hickory, N.C.
