Trojan Track & Field Opens Season at Orange & Purple Winter Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Anderson University track and field teams opened their seasons by posting several school records at Clemson's Orange & Purple Winter Classic last Saturday.

Junior Krishaun Hall finished 17th while posting a time of 7.95 seconds in the 60 Meter Dash preliminaries, which was good enough to get the Anderson native ranked 20th in the nation, while senior Whitney Bishoff finished second in the mile run with a time of 5:06.39 - the third-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season.

Freshman Jill Baxter was one of a trio of Trojan freshmen to make their presence known, as she notched a height of 1.60 meters to tie for seventh - ranking 13th in the nation.

Veteran Lauren Sloan finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 11.89 meters, while freshmen Brooklyn Watt and Savanna Keese finished 10th and 11th, with distances of 9.96 meters and 9.93 meters, respectively.

Watt followed with a distance of 10.75 meters in the weight throw, earning 11th, while Sloan captured 12th at 10.47 meters.

On the men's side, junior Josh Butler finished 12th in the 60 Meter Dash, with a school-record equaling time of 7:05 seconds, which placed him 12th.

Fellow junior Zach Hart notched fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.45 meters, while junior Will Byars set a new school record with a distance of 15.53 meters in the weight throw. Sophomore Brant Bullister and newcomer Nathan Plank finished seventh and ninth with distances of 10.63 meters and 10.17 meters, respectively.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team - Deniz Hay, Drew Mahaffey, Joshua Visi-Clark and Matt Shaffer - set a new school record with a time of 3:33.95.

The track and field teams will get back in action on Jan. 28-29 at Clemson's JRF Combined Events/Invitational.
