Trojan Track and Field Competes at UNC’s Gene Anderson Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Anderson University track and field teams posted 19 top-15 finishes, including two first-place finishes on the men's side Saturday at the 2012 Gene Anderson UNC Invitational.

Junior Matt Shaffer brought home first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.75, while sophomore Deniz Hay claimed first in the one-mile run in a time of 4:27.62. Teammate Ryne Welch crossed the line in a time of 4:43.49 to capture 14th in the 800 meter.

Junior Josh Butler earned 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.30, while sophomore Parks Edwards (9:04.85) and sophomore Kyle Koby (9:28.15) finished eighth and 15th, respectively in the 3000 meter run.

Junior Zach Hart posted a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.30 meters and Jonathan Chapman garnered 11th in the long jump at 5.95 meters.

Junior Will Byars took seventh in the shot put at 13.64 meters and freshman Nathan Plank garnered 14th with a toss of 11.69 meters. The newcomer also claimed 11th in the weight throw at 12.46 meters and Brant Bullister earning ninth at 13.05 meters.

For the women, sophomore Rachel Westberry (23:33.55) earned fifth in the 800 meter, with junior Kathryn Purinton placing 12th (2:39.01).

Senior Whitney Bishoff claimed fourth in the one mile run with a time of 5:10.71, while Hannah Robles crossed the line in 11:34.55 to take 15th in the 3000 meter run.

Freshman Jill Baxter earned an eighth-place finish in the high jump at 1.55 meters, with freshman Brooklyn Watt posting a fifth-place finish with a distance of 11.52 meters in the shot put. Freshman Savanna Keese garnered 15th in the shot put with a toss of 9.95 meters, with Watt posting 15th at 9.78 meters. .

The Trojans are back in action next weekend at the NCRUNNERS Elite Last Chance Meet in Winston-Salem.
