Track and Field Competes at Clemson Tiger Qualifier

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams competed at their final meet of the 2012 outdoor season in the Clemson Tiger Qualifier Friday and Saturday at Clemson's Rock Norman Complex.

Senior Whitney Bishoff claimed second place in Friday's 1500 meter run in a time of 4:33.83, less than two seconds behind Clemson's Kimberly Ruck, who took first place with a time of 4:32.00. Fellow senior Lauren Sloan brought home a sixth-place finish (45.71 meters) in the hammer throw, seventh in the shot put (13.08 meters) and placed ninth in the discus throw (36.80 meters).

Freshman Brooklyn Watt finished seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 40.82 meters and placed eighth (12.23 meters) in the shot put, while freshman Savanna Keese finished eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 40.90 meters.

On the men's side, sophomore Deniz Hay brought home second place in Friday's 1500 meter run in a time of 4:00.52, while junior Matt Shaffer placed fifth (1:52.37) in the 800 meter run.

Junior Josh Butler posted a time of 22.60 to finish eighth in the 200 meter dash, while junior Will Byars notched seventh in the discus throw (39.06 meters) and ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.24 meters. Freshman Nathan Plank finished eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 38.20 meters.

Members of the track and field teams will next compete at the NCAA D-II National Championships, set for May 24-26 in Pueblo, Colo.
