Men’s Tennis Hands Tusculum First Loss of Season; 5-4

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University men's tennis continues its solid play defeating undefeated Tusculum on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in league play while Tusculum falls to 13-1 and 4-1 in SAC play.

The Trojans took control from the beginning winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the doubles round to earn a 2-1 advantage. Trojan duo Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun defeated Tashique Kader and Leon Seiz, 8-5, while Juan Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri won over Eduardo Munoz and Toby de Klerk, 8-6, heading into singles action.

In singles action, Ascarrunz, Carracedo and Calhoun each won in three set thrillers to hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season. In the No. 3 slot, Ascarrunz defeated Tashique Kader, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, handing Kader only his second loss of the year. At the No. 4 spot, Carracedo won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Leon Seiz while Calhoun battled to defeat David Siegle, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.

Anderson returns to SAC action on Monday when it travels to Lenior-Rhyne. First serve is set for noon at Hickory High School.
