ANDERSON, S.C. - Using the momentum from a pair of doubles wins to
open the match, Anderson University men's tennis earned a
hard-fought 5-4 win over Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic
Conference action on Saturday at the AU Tennis Complex.
With the triumph, the Trojans claimed their sixth win of the season and move to 6-2 overall with a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters fell to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in SAC play.
In the doubles round, Anderson's Mateo Rivas and Aljaz Cajzek won 8-3 over Joshua Coulthard and Carlos Zunino at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2, Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun defeated Pepe Batalla and Joshua Peress, 8-5 to claim the first two matches. Lincoln Memorial's David Segarra and Guilherme Rocha posted a hard fought win over the Trojans' duo Juan Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri, 9-8, 7-4 to avoid being shut-out in the doubles portion.
Anderson's top half of the lineup took care of the Railspitters in the singles portion to help Anderson claimed a 5-4 victory over Lincoln Memorial. Freshman Cajzek defeated Moritz Hoerner 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 while Rivas battled to a three-set victory over Pepe Batalla 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot. The final Trojan to win and earn point number five was Carracedo over Joshua Coulthard 6-2, 6-2.
Anderson returns to action when it hits the road to take on Augusta Tuesday. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
