ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University men's tennis played well, but
could take advantage of the 2-1 lead following the doubles round,
falling to No. 48 Wingate on Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic
Conference action at the WU Tennis Facility.
The loss drops the Trojans to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in league play
while Wingate improves to 13-4 and 7-1 in conference action.
The Trojans led 2-1 after the doubles round winning at the No. 2
and No. 3 spots. Juan Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri picked up the
first point for the Black and Gold after defeating Filippo Pezzoli
and Tyler Schofer, 8-6. Paul Michael Calhoun and Nicolas Ascarrunz
won, 8-6, over Amir Zair and Duncan Addison to give Anderson the
2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
No. 48 Wingate charged right back winning the first three
matches to take a 4-1 lead. Anderson's Carracedo stopped the
momentum by defeating Amir Zair, 6-2, 6-3. The Bulldogs were able
to seal the victory with a win at the No. 5 spot to post their
fifth point of the day. Trojan senior Calhoun would capture the
fourth point to set the final score on the afternoon with a
three-set victory over Tyler Schofer.
Anderson returns to the courts on Saturday for its final home
match when it faces SAC foe Tusculum. The action is scheduled to
get underway at 2 p.m. at the AU Tennis Complex.
