Men’s Tennis Defeats Belmont Abbey, 7-2

ANDERSON, S.C. - In effort to build some momentum heading back into South Atlantic Conference action next weekend, Anderson University men's tennis defeated Belmont Abbey, 7-2, in nonconference play Thursday at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 7-3 overall, while the Crusaders fall to 5-11 on the season.

Sweeping the doubles round, the Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead heading into the singles portion. Mateo Rivas and Aljaz Cajzek battled for an 8-5 win over Juan Baez and James Delaney at the No. 1 spot, while No. 2 seed Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun defeated Young-Jin Kang and Grant Goldin, 8-3. Cruising to an 8-0 victory for the Black and Gold was Juan Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri over Laine Harrett and Derrick Kwok at No. 3.

The Trojans won four out of the six singles matches to defeat Belmont Abbey 7-2. Iriberri recorded both his seventh singles and doubles victory of the year for the Black and Gold.

Anderson hits the road on Saturday to play Peach Belt Opponent No. 11 Columbus State. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
