Sevierville, Tenn. - Paced by Sean Shelton's 4-over-par 76, the Anderson University men's golf team is tied for seventh following opening-round action on Sunday at the three-day 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted at the 7,088-yard, par-72 Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
Lincoln Memorial (305) leads the tourney by one shot over
Tusculum (306), while Wingate (310) trails the Pioneers by four
strokes. SAC-newcomer Queens (313), Newberry (313) and
Carson-Newman (313) are tied for fourth, while Anderson (316),
Brevard (316) and Catawba (316) all share the seventh spot.
Coker (316), Lenoir-Rhyne (324) and Mars Hill (325) round out the
12-team field.
Wingate's Tyler Stone (73) leads the race for individual medalist
honors, leading Tusculum's Nick Forsberg by one shot. Brevard's
Sami Vanni, LMU's Connor Froning and Mars Hill's Adam Lumley each
carded a 3-over-par 75 and are tied for third.
Shelton posted a pair of birdies - at No. 8 and No. 10 - and six bogeys en route to his 4-over-par effort and the senior shares the sixth spot, along with LMU's Kurtis Campbell, Coker's Josh Clay and Carson-Newman's Jonathan Kim-Moss.
Sophomore David Wachter, senior Arran Setro and freshman Rob Warren each carded an opening-round 80 and are in a nine-way tie for 30th. Junior CJ Messana rounded out the Trojan contingent with a first-round 83 and is 47th.
The tourney's second round is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
