Men’s Golf in 16th at Richard Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. - Paced by senior Sean Shelton's nine-over par 80, the Anderson University men's golf team is in 16th place following the first day of action at the Richard Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba on Monday at the 6,665-yard par 71 Country Club of Salisbury.

Limestone leads the 18-team field after posting a combined 305, while Queens (308) is three shots further back. UNC Pembroke and Lenoir-Rhyne finished the opening round with identical 309 scores, while Coker (311), King (315), Erskine (316), Carson-Newman (317), Lincoln Memorial (318), Belmont Abbey (320) and North Greenville (320) round out the top 10 scores.

The Trojans (332) lead Tusculum (334) by two strokes and Post University (340) by eight shots entering Tuesday's final round and trail Pfeiffer by five shots.

Shelton's effort gives him a share of 34th, while junior CJ Messana carded an 81 and is tied for 43rd. Sophomore David Wachter fired a first-round 83 and shares 61st, with senior Arran Setro tied for 82nd after an 88. Freshman Payton Whitlock is in a three-way tie for 85th after an 89.

The two-day event is scheduled to wrap up Tuesday.
