Men’s Golf in 16th at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - Senior Sean Shelton carded an opening-round one-over-par 73 to pace the Anderson men's golf team, as the Trojans sit in 16th place following opening-round action of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday at the par-72, 6,740 yard Sea Trail Resort.

"I was proud of our effort," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "I was very pleased with David (Wachter), considering this is just his second tournament. Hopefully we will shoot better tomorrow and pass some teams."

Anderson (302) leads Newberry (304) by two strokes and UNC Pembroke (305) by three shots entering Tuesday's final round.

Mount Olive, Wingate, Coker and Emmanuel each posted a first-round 285 and lead fifth-place North Greenville (291) by six strokes. Sixth-place Lincoln Memorial (292) sits one stroke further back, while Queens posted an opening-round 294 and is seventh. Mars Hill (295), Walters State (295) and Limestone (296) round out the top 10.

Shelton (35-38=73) is in an eight-way tie for 28th, while teammate David Wachter fired a first-round 74 and is tied for 36th along with 10 others. Junior CJ Messana (39-36=75) is one shot further back and tied for 47th, while senior Arran Setro is tied for 87th following his opening-round 80.

Emmanuel's Dillon Bowers sits atop the leaderboard after an opening-round five-under-par 67 and leads teammate John Sawyer (32-36=68) and Coker's Josh Clay (33-35=68) by one shot entering Tuesday's round.
