Men's Golf Team Finishes Fifth At CVAC Tourney

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Anderson College men's golf team shot 301 for the second straight day to finish in fifth place in the 2005 CVAC Tournament at the Hartsville Country Club. The Trojans finished the 54-hole event with a total of 924, six shots ahead of sixth place Belmont Abbey. Pfeiffer shot 294 in the final round and then won a playoff against host Coker to claim the title. Both the Falcons and the Cobras finished three rounds tied at 895. Queens University of Charlotte was third at 900, and Barton was fourth at 912. Pfeiffer's Ian Kenwright (72-72-73) and Jordan Stelmach (76-71-73) finished 1-2 in the individual standings. Anderson was led in the final round by freshman Kurt Owings, who shot a 73 to finish in a tie for ninth in the overall standings at 226. Owings, who earned all-tournament honors with his finish, was even par in the final two rounds. Freshman Clay Williamson also shot 73 for Anderson in the final round, an improvement of 17 shots from his first round.
