Men’s Basketball Rounds out Recruiting Class by Adding Austin Cummins

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University head men's basketball coach Jason Taylor has announced that the Trojans have added Austin Cummins out of Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, Ky. to the roster and will compete for the Black and Gold starting with the 2015-16 season.

"We are extremely excited that Austin chose to continue his education and basketball career at Anderson University," said Taylor. "Austin can flat-out put the ball in the basket. We like scoring lefties. Austin is a great fit for Anderson University and he's going to have an outstanding playing career for the Trojans and leave a lasting impression off the court."

The 5-foot-11 guard helped lead head coach Glen Drury's Bearcats to a 16-10 record last season, while ranking second in the Bluegrass State by averaging 26.5 points per game. The left-handed sharpshooter poured in more than 40 points on five occasions during his senior campaign and wrapped up his prep career with 1,563 points, including 688 during his senior season. Cummins displayed his versatility by also leading the squad with more than five rebounds and nearly four steals per contest.

Last December, Cummins scored his 1,000th career point against Danville High School and four days later broke his own single-game record with 10 three-pointers in a 74-63 setback to Madison Southern. He set a single-game scoring record with 51 points against Clark County in early February, while dropping in 44 points to help the Bearcats upset eventual Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) 8th Region semifinalist Owen County, 73-65, on the Rebels' home court.

Following his senior campaign, Cummins was a runner-up for 8th-Region Player of The Year honors, while earning All-State Honorable Mention accolades and being named to the East/West All-Star game. The guard also earned Woodford County Invitational Tournament MVP honors after averaging 24.7 points over a three-game span.

Cummins also led the Bearcats by averaging 21 points per game as a junior and received an invitation to try out for the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star game. He was a three-time All-District honoree and was named All-Region twice.

Cummins competed for the Western Kentucky Elite AAU squad, coached by Rico Rosado. He is the son of Bobby and Debbie Cummins.
