ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's basketball team saw its five-game home win streak snapped by Brevard, 57-54, in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson slipped to 8-9 overall and 4-7 in league play and has dropped four of its last five decisions, while Brevard (7-10, 5-6 SAC) has won four of its last five outings and defeated the Trojans for the first time since posting a nine-point win in 2012 at the Abney Center.

Senior guard Nick Jackson shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points, including nine in the second half, while guard Myson Jones added nine points and a pair of assists. Sophomore Rakish Taylor chipped in eight points off the bench and shared game-high rebounding honors with six. Senior guard DJ McGowan also pulled down six boards on the night.

The Trojan defense held the league's second-leading scorer, Darius Moose, to five points - 13 points below his average, but Brevard junior Phil Wallace dropped in 15 points, with sophomore guard Trevon Shaw recording 12 points.

The contest was tied seven times and the lead changed hands 18 times, including a dozen occasions in the second half, with neither team managing to build more than a one-possession lead over the final 26:37. Anderson out-rebounded the Tornados, 30-21, but Brevard converted 15 Trojan turnovers into 19 points.

Jackson's second straight 3-pointer of the opening moments gave the Trojans their first lead of the night, at 6-5, with Jones dropping in a layup less than a minute later to build the edge to three. But Shaw quickly countered with his first trey of the contest to even the score at eight apiece at the 16:56 mark of the first half.

Jones' fourth straight point gave AU a brief lead, with the Tornados' Brayden Masten and Shaw connecting on back-to-back 3-pointers to fuel an 11-2 surge by Brevard that saw the visitors build their largest lead of the game, at 19-10, with 12:01 left in the opening half.

Adekambi answered on the other end for the Trojans with his lone 3-pointer of the contest from the left side. The 6-foot-4 guard's long-range jumper sparked a 14-0 outburst by AU that turned the nine-point deficit into a 24-19 advantage, marking AU's largest cushion of the game. The Trojan defense held Brevard scoreless for nearly six minutes, while senior center Chris Ross and freshman Tre' Fields scored four points apiece during the run and freshman guard Kendall Henry capped the surge with a 3-pointer from the left corner.

The Tornados responded with two baskets in quick succession to knot the score at 24-24 and the teams went to the locker rooms with the score even at 29 apiece at the break.

Neither team was able to build a decisive advantage over the first 17 minutes of the second half, while Wallace, who drained the game-winning 3-pointer to give Brevard a last-second win over 20th-ranked Newberry last Saturday, gave the Tornados a lead they would not relinquish on a jumper with less than three minutes on the clock. He followed with a layup to boost BC's lead to 52-49, with 2:29 left, before Jones countered with a pair of free throws to pull AU within one.

Wallace's third trey of the game with 34.9 seconds remaining gave the visitors a 55-51 edge, with Jackson answering with his fifth 3-pointer to keep the margin at one with just 29 seconds on the clock. The Trojans then sent Wallace to the line, where the guard missed the front end of a one-and-one with 25.7 seconds showing on the clock.

But the Trojans were unable to capitalize on the miss and were forced to send Wallace to the line again, where he connected on both free throws to build Brevard's lead to 57-54 with 16.8 ticks on the clock. AU then had a pair of off-balance three-point attempts miss the mark inside the final 10 seconds.

The Trojans open a two-game road swing, beginning with Saturday's nationally-televised contest at Queens in the first meeting this season between the two teams. Tip-off versus the Royals at Curry Arena-Levine Center is set for 2 p.m.
