Basketball Doubleheader at Queens University to be Televised on CBS Sports Network

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's basketball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, at Queens University of Charlotte will be televised on the CBS Sports Network as the NCAA Division II Basketball Games of the Week, as announced by CBS and the NCAA early Monday afternoon.

"Being chosen as one of CBS Sports' games for Division II Basketball is an honor," said Anderson men's head coach Jason Taylor. "We are excited about the opportunity to compete on national television. I'm grateful to CBS Sports and all they do to spotlight and promote Division II basketball. I hope all our fans, supporters, and our players embrace the opportunity and enjoy the experience."

After not squaring off on the hardwood for more than three years, the Anderson and Queens' men's teams squared off three times in the span of 41 days last season, as the two squads met twice in the regular season and once in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

If recent history is any indication of future performance, the first meeting of the 2014-15 regular season between the Trojans and Royals will not be decided until the final moments, as the two squads split the 2013-14 regular-season series, with the Trojans claiming a last-second, 85-84, win at the Abney Center in late January. The Royals, in their inaugural season in the league, avenged the loss by edging Anderson, 75-73, in the regular-season finale in Charlotte. Four nights later, Anderson handed the Royals an 11-point setback in the opening round of the SAC Tournament.

The men's programs have squared off on 29 occasions, with Queens holding a decisive 20-9 advantage in the all-time series. The Royals swept the first three season series between the two schools, while the Trojans claimed the last meeting as Conference Carolinas opponents, 75-73, in Charlotte on Feb. 15, 2010. The schools have split the last 10 contests, with each team winning five matchups. AU is 7-7 at home versus the Royals, while going 2-12 against the Royals in Charlotte, with Queens earning a victory in the lone meeting on a neutral court.

Guard CJ Gleaton equaled his career high with 27 points in the SAC Quarterfinal showdown, as the third-seeded Trojans outlasted sixth-seeded Queens, 76-65.

On the women's side, Anderson and Queens will lock up for what will be the fifth time in the last five years. After Anderson moved to the SAC before the start of the 2010-11 season, the Trojans and Royals discontinued their cross-border rivalry and did not resume the series until Queens joined Anderson in the SAC before the start of last season. As conference foes once again, the teams renewed the rivalry last Jan. 25 at the Abney Athletic Center. In that matchup, AU captured a 74-61 win over Queens, claiming its fifth straight win in the all-time series.

A little over a month later, the Royals broke Anderson's winning streak with a 68-57 win over the Black and Gold in the regular season finale on March 1. The game marked the Trojans' first trip in the new Levine Center.

"It is an honor for Anderson University and our women's basketball program to be selected to play on national television against Queens University, " added Anderson women's head coach Jimmy Garrity. "I am extremely happy for our players to have the opportunity to represent Anderson and compete on such a big stage. This telecast will give us a chance to showcase our basketball program and display the high level of basketball being played in the South Atlantic Conference. It also gives past players and coaches of Anderson University an opportunity to watch and re-connect with the program they help build."

The twin bill between the Trojans and Royals is the lone doubleheader on the CBS broadcast schedule and marks the second time in three seasons that the Trojan men's squad has been featured as the D-II Game of the Week. In January, 2013, forward Bo Holston converted a traditional three-point play with just 3.3 seconds left to lift AU to a stunning 67-66 upset over 12th-ranked Lincoln Memorial in the televised contest in Harrogate, Tenn.
