ANDERSON, S.C. - With four players reaching double figures in the scoring column, the Anderson men's basketball team wrapped up its two-game homestand by routing Coker, 81-66, in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (13-13, 9-11 SAC) claimed its second straight victory and fifth win in the last seven games, while defeating the Cobras for the third time in four meetings. Coker fell to 10-14 overall and 9-11 in conference play with its third loss in four games.

The Trojans were 29-of-55 from the field on the afternoon en route to posting their third-highest shooting percentage of the season at 52.7 percent, including 64.0 percent accuracy in the decisive opening half. Anderson also controlled the battle of the boards by a 36-25 count and scored 14 second chance points with 10 offensive rebounds.

Senior Nick Jackson shared game-high scoring honors with 20 points, while senior Chris Ross narrowly missed garnering his third double-double of the campaign with 15 points and nine rebounds. Freshman point guard Maurice Howard netted 11 points and handed out a game-high six assists, with fellow freshman Matthew McClain adding 11 points and grabbing five rebounds.

Coker sophomore Donte Samuels scored 20 points and senior guard Errick Bethel chipped in 17 points and four assists for the Cobras.

Samuels scored the first basket of the game just 34 seconds into the contest, but it proved to be the only lead of the game for the Cobras, as the Trojans responded with 11 unanswered points, with Ross and Jackson combining for nine points to fuel the breakout. Back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Tre' Fields and Jackson propelled Anderson's lead to a double-digit advantage, at 17-5, less than six minutes into the game and AU built a 21-5 advantage with 13:04 left in the first half. The Trojans opened red-hot from the field, connecting on 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) from the field in the opening seven minutes of the game.

The Trojans steadily built their advantage and took their largest lead of the opening 20 minutes, at 37-19, on Ross's tip-in with 5:30 remaining in the first half and held a 45-28 edge at intermission.

Anderson opened the second stanza with a 12-5 run and claimed a 24-point lead on a 3-pointer from Jackson. The Cobras climbed within 68-53 when Trey James connected on 1-of-2 from the line, but would get no closer than 15 until freshman Roman Hall drained a free throw with 15 seconds left in the contest to set the final score.

Anderson wraps up its regular-season road slate with a trip to Tusculum on Wednesday. The Trojans will be looking for a sweep of the season series after defeating the Pioneers, 75-65, earlier this month at the Abney Center. Tip-off versus the Pioneers in Greeneville, Tenn., is set for 8 p.m.
