ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University head coach Jason Taylor has announced that prep standout Jeremy Bouton, out of Boone High School in Orlando, Fla., has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Trojan men's basketball team for the 2015-16 campaign.
Bouton, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard/forward, helped lead head
coach Greg Shirley's Braves' squad to a 17-9 record while averaging
seven points and five rebounds per game. Bouton connected on 39
treys last season, while shooting 31 percent from behind the arc.
He earned all-tournament recognition at Boone's Christmas
tournament last season and possesses the versatility to play
multiple positions on the court, as both a shooter and rebounder.
The Braves have been ranked in the top 10 in the state in class 8A
for the last two years, as a sophomore, Bouton drained a pair of
3-pointers that helped propel top-ranked Boone to a
come-from-behind win in the district championship contest.
The native of the Sunshine State also competes on the AAU level for
head coach Adrian McRae's EYSF Panthers, where Bouton averaged 18
points, eight rebounds, four assists and nearly two steals per
contest last summer. His work ethic and positive attitude have
earned him Best Offensive, Most Improved and Best Attitude awards
from the Panthers.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Jeremy to our program,"
said Taylor. "He's going to have a great career at AU on the court
and off. Jeremy has been extremely well coached at Boone High
School under Coach Greg Shirley and in the summers with Coach
Adrian McRae. On the court, Jeremy can really shoot it but he also
has great size and versatility that allows him to score from
anywhere on the court and allows him to guard multiple positions.
He has a great competitive spirit, and I am excited to coach
him."
Described as a versatile wing who can play multiple positions on
the floor, Bouton has the ability to handle the ball with both
hands and can knock down the 3-pointer shot at any time.
"Jeremy is tough, skilled, and plays with a high basketball IQ," added AU associate head coach Ryan Hilburn. "Jeremy's best basketball is still in front of him. He will be looked upon this season at Boone to elevate his role to be more of a leader and a scorer. After a another productive summer with Coach McRae and EYSF Panthers, Jeremy should slip right into that role for Boone High School and have a good senior season.
Bouton is the son of Michelle and Charlie Bouton and has a
brother, Jeffrey.
