Trojans Remain Fifth in NCAA Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After splitting road decisions over the past week, the Anderson men's basketball team remains fifth in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's second Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday.

The top five teams in the poll remained unchanged, as Peach Belt Conference-member USC Aiken (24-3, 16-1 PBC), which is ranked eighth in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and sits atop the East Division of Peach Belt Conference, remained atop the regional rankings. Lincoln Memorial (22-2, 18-2 SAC), which is ranked 13th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and is first in the South Atlantic Conference, is still second on the regional list, with 21st-ranked Montevallo (21-4, 14-4 PBC), which is first in the West Division of the PBC, remaining in the third spot.

GRU Augusta (21-5, 14-3 PBC) sits in fourth. Anderson (19-7, 14-6 SAC), which is third in the South Atlantic Conference, is one of four teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the regional rankings. Carson-Newman (18-6, 15-5 SAC), which is currently second in the SAC, vaulted from ninth to sixth, with Georgia Southwestern (18-9, 10-8 PBC) slipping one spot to seventh.

Conference Carolinas' members Mount Olive (18-8, 12-4 CC) and Barton (16-10, 12-4 CC) are eighth and 10th, respectively, with SAC-member Newberry (17-7, 13-7 SAC) moving from 10th to ninth in this week's rankings.

Limestone (18-7, 10-6 CC), which was eighth a week ago, dropped out of this week's poll.

The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 5, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 9.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.

Following tonight's key home contest versus Tusculum, Anderson closes out the regular season at Queens on Saturday.
