Trojan Men’s Basketball Ranked Fifth in Southeast Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Anderson men's basketball team is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's first Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday.

Peach Belt Conference-member USC Aiken (22-3, 14-1 PBC), which is ranked 10th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and sits atop the East Division of Peach Belt Conference, is ranked first in the region by the NCAA, while Lincoln Memorial (20-2, 16-2 SAC), which is ranked 14th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and is first in the South Atlantic Conference, is second on the regional list.

No. 16-ranked Montevallo (19-3, 12-3 PBC), which is first in the West Division of the PBC, is third in the regional rankings, while GRU Augusta (20-4, 13-2 PBC) sits in fourth. Anderson (18-6, 11-3 SAC), which is tied for second place in the South Atlantic Conference, is one of four teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the regional rankings.

Georgia Southwestern (18-7, 10-6 PBC) follows in sixth, with Conference Carolinas' members Mount Olive (15-8, 9-4 CC) and Limestone (16-7, 8-5 CC) in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Carson-Newman (16-6, 13-5 SAC), which is currently tied with the Trojans in second place in the SAC, is ninth, while fellow SAC-member Newberry (15-7, 11-7 SAC) is 10th.

The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 5, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 9.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.

Following tonight's key road contest at Carson-Newman, Anderson visits Coker on Saturday.
