Former Men’s Basketball Standout to Play Professionally in Japan

ANDERSON, S.C. - Former Anderson University men's hoops standout Trey Britton has inked a contract to play basketball professionally overseas next season for the Gunma Crane Thunders of Japan's BJ League.

The current Crane Thunders roster is not complete, but last season the team listed former Virginia Tech forward Lewis Witcher, Dominique Keller from Illinois, Pittburgh's Jermaine Dixon and Ryo Tanaka from BYU-Hawaii as players from the United States.

The squad was coached by Ryan Blackwell, who played collegiately for Illinois and Syracuse before playing professional basketball for the Sendai 89ers in Japan from 2006-2008. The team finished the 2012-13 campaign in 11th place in the Eastern Division of the BJ League with a 14-38 record.

Britton started 32 games as a senior for Anderson during the 2010-11 season, averaging 10.6 points and five rebounds per game while helping lead the Trojans to thee second of three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and their first-ever Elite Eight. He scored a season-high 24 points and garnered seven rebounds versus Georgia College that season, while posting 19 points and recording eight rebounds against Clayton State.

The native of Alpharetta, Ga. played professionally as a power forward for Finland's Aanekosken Huima for a season following his collegiate career, competing in Finland's 1st Division, which is the country's highest level of competition. Britton averaged a double-double for Aanekosken, recording 17.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, as the team posted a 14-8 record.

Britton, who graduated in May, 2011 with a degree in business management, will travel to Japan at the end of August to start practicing with the team.
