Hash Named Second-Team Academic All-America

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University men's basketball senior guard Chandler Hash has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America men's basketball second team for NCAA Division II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Wednesday afternoon.

Hash is the reigning South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete for men's basketball and carries a 3.51 grade point average, while majoring in nursing.

"We are proud of Chandler," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "He is very deserving of this honor and recognition. He embodies everything student-athletes are supposed to be. No one works harder on or off the court than Chandler."

A native of Greer, S.C., Hash was earlier named First-Team Academic All- District for the second consecutive year and earned Preseason First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors. The 6-foot guard has started 51 consecutive games for the Black and Gold and has reached double figures in the scoring column in 39 straight contests, while leading the SAC in scoring and ranks fourth nationally with his 23.9 points per game average.

Hash is fifth all-time in Anderson's record books with 1,332 career points and his career-high 42 points versus GRU Augusta in November is tied for sixth highest in NCAA Division II this season. He has been named SAC Player of the Week three times in his career and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and the Anderson University Dean's List. He was among 202 nominees for the 2014 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams,® as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Allstate Insurance Company on Dec. 3.

Bryce Foster of Missouri University of Science and Technology has been named the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division II Men's Basketball. Foster, a business and management systems major with a 3.89 GPA, ranks second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in scoring, averaging 21.6 ppg, 13th in Division II. A 6-foot-4 guard/forward from Florissant, Mo., he ranks second on the Miners in rebounding (7.0 rpg), adding 50 assists, 28 steals and 14 blocked shots. He is shooting 48.2 percent from the floor (162-of-336), including a team-high 56 3-pointers in 163 attempts (34.4 pct.), and has made 117-of-142 free throws (82.4 pct.).

Three other seniors join Foster as first team Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball team members, Mike Dentlinger of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Austin Armga of Michigan Technological University, and Seattle Pacific's David Downs. The fifth member of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball first team is junior Trey Casey of Christian Brothers University.

Joining Hash on the second team are seniors Derek Billing of Lake Superior State University and Dominykas Milka of The College of Saint Rose and juniors Nicholas Kay and Mitch McCarron of Metropolitan State University of Denver and Teancum Stafford of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Milka was also named to the second team in 2012-13.

The Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball third team includes seniors Carson Konrade of Fort Hays State University along with juniors C.J. Hester of West Liberty University, Tylon Smith of Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's Ian Vescovi. Hester was also named to the third team last year

In order to earn recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and nominees are voted upon by CoSIDA members.

The Capital One Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 D-II Academic All-America teams program.
