ANDERSON, S.C. -- Blair Carson hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and Anderson University scored five more runs in the sixth on its way to an 11-7 victory over Augusta State in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Augusta State used an RBI single by Garrick McGrath in the first, a two-run homer by Jimmy Tenerovich in the second and a sacrifice fly by Alan Gregg in the third to take a 4-0 lead. After getting a single run back in the third on an RBI double by Kyle Lewis, the Trojans (20-31) took a 5-4 lead in the fourth when Carson hit a 3-0 pitch over the left field fence to clear the bases. The Jaguars (13-28) tied the game at 5 in the fifth on a lead-off triple by Justin Walker and a sacrifice fly by McGrath. After scoring a single run in the fifth on a fielder's choice, a balk, and an error for a 6-5 lead, the Trojans took command of the game with a five-run sixth. The big hits in the inning were a two-run single by Jonathan Pitts and a two-run triple by John Mac White. Trailing 11-5 with two outs in the eighth, Augusta State got an RBI double from Robbie Fite then loaded the bases against Anderson reliever B.J. Scarborough.
